Discover something elegant as actors of color fill the cast of Classics In Color's co-production (with Quick Silver Theater Company) of PROOF by David Auburn, winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. Directed by Johanna Day, PROOF is now open and runs through Sunday, September 13th at 4th Street Theater (83 East 4th Street, NYC).  Show time: 7:30pm.

PROOF with a multi-ethnic cast evokes a new expression of privilege and gender issues. On the eve of her 25th birthday, a troubled young woman’s brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician, dies. Now she must deal with her own volatile emotions, the arrival of her estranged sister, and the attentions of a former student of her father’s who hopes to find valuable work in the 103 notebooks the father left behind. Over the long weekend that follows, a burgeoning romance and the discovery of a mysterious notebook draw the young woman into the most difficult problem of all: how much of her father’s madness—or genius—will she inherit?

The cast features Lolita Foster (Orange is the New Black), Broadway veteran Count Stovall (A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Driving Miss Daisy), Nafeesa Monroe (Shakespeare and Company-Love’s Labour’s Lost) and Alejandro Rodriquez (59E59-Ghetto Babylon).
